Why Rocket
Phonics gets such amazing results
After
millions of dollars of research done over three decades, the
steps in learning to read are summarized in the book Put
Reading First: The Research Building Blocks for Teaching
Children to Read. This book was developed by The Center
for Improvement of Early Reading Achievement for the US
Department of Education.) The steps are: phonemic
awareness, phonics, fluency and comprehension.
These
are steps on a spiral staircase where each turn brings the
reader to a higher level. Until
recently, one step has eluded researchers all these years.
The step between phonics and fluency where a reader can decode
fast enough to read as fast as he or she speaks (the
definition of fluency.)
Fluency
allows the speed of reading to approach the speed of thinking
so that the child doesn't forget the beginning of the sentence
by the time he reaches the end promoting comprehension.
At
the same time that Put Reading First was released a
UCLA analysis of Rocket Phonics suggested a solution was found.
Rocket Phonics students gained nearly four months of skill for
every month gained by other methods. In Rocket Phonics words
were decoded using its unique phonics system until they become
sight words. Sight words increase reading speed, developing
fluency!
Phonemic
Awareness
(hearing
and manipulating the sounds of language)
Rocket Phonics introduces 36 sound -
letter combinations which allow your child to pronounce and
read every word in the English Language!
Play & Read Cards
$10.00

Two sets of 36
cards representing all the sounds needed to pronounce all the
words in the English language. Printed in full-color on
high-quality card stock, each 2.5” X 3.5”card shows one
sound and a picture containing that sound. Included are
instructions for over six games and variations to learn all
the sounds. Variations to best meet the needs of students’
different learning styles are included also.
Real Phonics: One Letter, One Sound -- No Exceptions
We then provide these sounds as helpers so the
child can read. [Notice in the example below the i in
wise is gray and underneath is ie (the long i
sound).] These helpers end the guessing and the frustration
for beginning readers.

This is what separates Rocket Phonics from other phonics systems. It's what makes Rocket Phonics the most effective phonics system for teaching children to read.
If you have the Play & Read Cards and you want to see if
this step is fun for your child or you just want more fun
games then get the Rocket Phonics Treasure Hunt.
Your child will love reading and following the rhyming
clues — and finding the Rocket Phonics treasure in these two
fun hunts!
The clues are written both with and without Rocket
Phonics’ unique “helpers”, so very beginning readers can
read beyond their grade levels to figure out clues and find
the treasure! Prompted and unprompted clues, “treasure”
(such as sticky hands, kazoos, etc.) all included and ready
for fun.

Rocket Phonics readers ages 5+ Treasure
for 4 included!
Using our book of games and stories, your child will start
right off playing games to learn symbols and begin blending
them into words he reads out loud -- in the first lesson! Sight
Words We have modified
the games, riddles, jokes and stories to include the most
common words in print. As your child progresses, the
prompts are dropped away. By the end of Rocket Phonics most
children will have mastered over 600 sight words. (A sight
word is a word read in less than a second.) Our
600+ sight words cover about 71% of
all the words your child will ever read! (Most
phonics systems contain 300 or less "commonly used
words")
Fluency
Fluency is reading aloud
at the rate in which you talk. The reading rate is picks
up speed as the child adds more sight words and becomes better
at applying his phonics skills.
Comprehension
Comprehension is understanding what was read.
This includes: facts, sequence, topic/main point, evaluation,
inference, and vocabulary. Games and jokes by there nature
show whether the child understands. And when the child starts
reading Aesop's fables - classic stories with 'meat' in them -
the discussion of the moral brings out these other aspects of
comprehension.
Results
Integrating the reading research with fun
games generates
incredible success! Normal reading progress is considered to be one reading
grade level per year, but Rocket Phonics gets
results three times that rate. Rocket Phonics gives your child
a competitive edge in the classroom and out.
In a
study by the University of
California, forty-three home-schooled students ranging in
age from 5 to 9 and reading at an early first grade level were
randomly divided into a Rocket Phonics reading group and a
control group. The control group was given a standard reading
program. After only three months, the control group gained an
average of 2.3 months in grade level, while the Rocket Phonics
group gained an impressive 8.9 months in reading grade level.
The more Rocket Phonics workbook pages read by the children,
the greater the grade level gains regardless of age.
Professor James Catterall, UCLA Graduate School of
Education, who evaluated the results of the study, noted: "No
one who did more than one (Rocket Phonics) lesson failed to
improve his or her skills."
A Superior Teaching Tool
Rocket Phonics gives parents a teaching tool superior in
quality and results for their dollar. Rocket Phonics doubles the "commonly used words"
vocabulary to over 600 words and contains six years of reading in
one kit! There is nothing more to buy.
